Understanding Our Differences
By Perry A~

There are no limitations to the imagination. Though the body and environment might be restricted, the mind can create its own boundaries. If you find yourself physically confined it could be the timing is not right. For instance, you are a fifteen year old female with Vanilla Pudding traits. Your forty year old father is a Black Forrest Torte Cake and your thirty eight year old mother is a Chocolate Chip Cookie.

Let’s look at our basic ingredients. Vanilla Pudding people are carefree and spontaneous. Emotional feelers, sensitive to criticism. Caretakers and givers. Very open to suggestions from others. Fun and happy feelings are a strong, driving value. Artistic, creative idea people and people pleaser. Dreamers. Not into structure, details and sticking to plans. They feel stifled by limitations and restrictions. They make decisions based on feelings and emotions. Logic and details are boring and time consuming. Detailed instructions are out of the question for this hands-on type.

They are at peace floating down the river of life going with the current. They arrive mostly by unconscious competence, following what feels good. They interact easily with charm and fun. They are romantic, idealistic, spiritual peacemakers.

Others may perceive them as irresponsible and lazy. Without direction or purpose. Scattered and cluttered. Indecisive. Overly emotional and sensitive.

Being open to new ideas, they are best guided by positive suggestions rather than harsh criiticism. Avoid limiting their creative space. Give them freedom with a clear picture of the results you want to achieve. When coupled with completion people you have a powerful team that gets things done.

Black Forest Torte Cake. This goal oriented person likes results and begins with the end in mind. Tenaciously stays on track. Self-disciplined and dedicated. Loyal and productive. Logical and precise, they like facts without fluff. Believes strongly in rules, structure and guidelines. They feel in control when they can see an organized logical plan. Realistic and efficient. The executive type. Likes results. Doesn’t mix work and play. Driven to achieve. An ongoing quest for knowledge.

Other see them as bossy, rigid, boring, opinionated, unemotional, driven, judgmental and autocratic. Do it my way people.

To effectively deal with them avoid fluff and get to the facts. Clearly define the end result you are seeking in the beginning. Recognize their position and point of view, taking care not to make them wrong. Make statements like "Thank you for your opinion, I will consider it carefully." "It is very interesting that you see it that way, what I had in mind was..." "I respect your opinion but how could we negotiate another alternative.

State what you need from them and ask for their cooperation. If they are too rigid you can always choose another alternative..

Chocolate Chip Cookie People are steady, reliable, grounded and stay with what works.
